Kemble Extravaganza

31st July - 2nd August 2009

Gerry Stoneman bringing the lighting fuel!!

Again an amazing turn out exhibits provided one of the best selections of steam engines and vintage vehicles you can see anywhere.

The joys of being on an airfield is the lovely flat site and a tarmac arena meaning that even in the rain soaked conditions we had on the Saturday engines and vehicles were still out there having fun and running around.

Mr Goddard enjoying a cup of tea and lerning a thing or two

Fun was had by all, here you can see while the cleaning crew were hard at work Gerry Stoneman kindly went out to find some lighting fuel!!!. Our favourite question of the weekend was again "Where does the coal go?" It is great to be able to meet the public and have the opportunity to explain about these wonderful machines.

Two steam cars were in attendance and as always drew much interest.

Next year will see the National Steam Car Association hold a special gathering at the Kemble Extravaganza. See Events page for further details.

Mersey Tunnel Vehicle Parade

David Webster coming out of the tunnel

19th July 2009

July 18th 1934 saw the opening of the Queensway Tunnel from Birkenhead to Liverpool.

That was 75 years ago, and to celebrate this historic milestone Merseytravel have invited Chester Vintage Enthusiasts Club to organise a 1930s themed vehicle parade which will precede a public walk through of the tunnel from Liverpool to Birkenhead on Sunday 17th July. Although not of the young ago of the participants (vehicular)!! The Sentinels of Morris Oils and Criddle and Co, both ex Liverpool wagons, which I remember having the dubious honour of following in my open vintage Lea Francis through the Tunnel, were present, also to complete the steam line up ,I took my 20hp 1909 R type Stanley. It appears that this will be the last opportunity to take these types of vehicles through the tunnel for many years to come.

The vehicles congregated on the plaza in front of the toll booths at the Birkenhead side of the tunnel in the morning, and at 9.30 paraded through to Liverpool before returning to the start area for a static display for the rest of the day. Shortly after the vehicles passed up to 24,000 paying members of the public walked through the tunnel, many for charity. The vehicles were on display until 4.00pm.

Profits from the event will be donated to Clare House Children’s Hospice at Clatterbridge

Honeybrook Farm Rally

11th - 12th July 2009
caption

"Letting Of Steam" - This is Honeybrook's second year running this lovely family steam gathering. Lovely open farm setting perfect for the family as there is kids playground and facilities.

Honeybrook Farm, Cranborne Road, Nr Wimborne, Dorset, BH21 4JD

This year Sally-Ann Dod took her 1910 Stanley and Gerry Stoneman took his new 20hp Stanely out for it's first public appearance. After a wet Saturday the Sunday was great and there was time to take to the local roads for a run around and to visit the local market town of Wimborne Minster.

For full details and more photos visit our Honeybrook Farm Rally page

Bloxham Steam Rally

27th - 28th July 2009

Sally-Ann Dod took her 1910 Stanley Tourer along to the Rally. A very hot weekend attendance at this year’s event was excellent. As the only car there the Stanley was slightly overwhelmed being parked next to a Maclaren Diesel converted Ploughing engine but as always there was lots of interest.

Seen here trying to navigate round the parade ring with the ploughing engine, a miniture and the ever gorgeous Earl Beatty Showmans. There were over 20 full size steam exhibits and this number grows each year.

NTET Steam Apprentice Club Drivers Weekend

27th - 28th July 2009

The Steam Apprentice Club held a special driving day to mark their 30th Anniversary. This was held at Old Warden Park, Near Biggleswade, Bedfordshire over the weekend of 27th -28th June 2009. This is a superb venue and probably known to many people as the site of the Bedford Steam Engine Preservation Society's annual rally in September.

This was an exciting event for all youngsters interested in traction engines and as expected large numbers attended.

Stuart Gray took along his Steam Car, which was a first for the Drivers Day.
