Hearing dog supporters and steam car enthusiasts Dean Rogers and Steve Baldock have completed the epic journey from John O'Groats to Lands End to raise funds for Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.
The custom built Lykamobile is based on the famous Locomoobiles of the early 1900’s with a few modern adjustments including a modern boiler and disk brakes.
The Lykamobile has a top speed of 37 miles per hour and has an average speed of a staggering 10 – 15 miles per hour. The car had to stop once an hour to take on water and another couple of times to take on fuel and water.
Their journey began in John O’Groats on 2 August and finished on the 16th August. The team will be stopped for events along the way including two days at the Pickering Steam Rally on 7th and 8th August.
Along the way Dean and Steve were be supported by former world pool champion Carl Morris and his hearing dog Ingle who hosted pool displays, exhibition matches and performing trick shots to raise money for these amazing dogs.
NSCA would like to congratulate them all.
There are many ways in which you can help; cash donations and sponsorship will be passed on in full as STW will be covering all of its own costs. Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is planning to make this a high profile event and hopes to achieve local and possibly even national media coverage, which would particularly appeal to business sponsors.
Our aim is to raise over £100,000 so please give us whatever support you can and help give even more people with this invisible disability the independence that we all so value.
